To Live One Day is to Have Died the Last
The original inspiration from this work came from reading Ray Bradbury's The Illustrated Man' in which he presents a series of short stories as a series of what ifs? And leaving them as open and potentially unanswerable ideas for the reader to ponder. I really enjoyed this open approach and wanted to see if | could create work without directly presenting an idea but instead asking the question what if you died each night and were reborn every morning? I started exploring the theory of Solipsism to shape my project.
For my final outcome, I have made a box of prints that include an ink expression on paper as well as oil pastel mark making on paper. I included ink and oil pastel in my final submission as experimenting with the physicality of the photo and using mixed mediums was important to my experiments this project. They act as a full stop to indicate a change of awareness as does the red full bleed print as they break the rhythm of the sequence and so the viewer will stop and consider what the change is. These prints form a circular, looping sequence.
