Ascension

Ascension is a project that I have created in order to explore the experience of 'God Complex' as a person with bipolar disorder as a way to talk about the elevated mood and power that is linked to the disorder. I use this project to explore ideas about identity, paranoia, power, fear and take a look into religious iconography to represent these emotions. It is important for me to use this project to understand myself and to represent my disorder accurately.

I chose to obscure my identity in one of my shoots by covering myself with a scarf which is also a nod to the women of the bible wearing coverings that has continued within Christianity even in the present day. By obscuring my identity, I can continue to allow my ego to grow whilst suppressing any thoughts of concern. This is best shown in the close-up image of my face, half covered, showing my eyes with a tear falling. The images where I am fully concealed, I am shown moving with the sea as if controlling it whilst it crashes in the background. This shoot is far more violent and chaotic in comparison to the peace and power of the first shoot where am seen in this power.
